Tooth damage can occur due to a number of causes, including injury, decay, or just general wear. In any case, such damage can affect your tooth’s shape and size, leading to both cosmetic and functional concerns. Our Beverly Hills dental crowns restore the tooth’s full shape and integrity for a natural appearance and healthy function.
As an implant and cosmetic dentistry specialist, Dr. Kerri Hill, can deliver exquisite, long-lasting restoration of your damaged tooth with dental crowns at The Art of Dental Wellness. If tooth damage is affecting your ability to live your most confident and comfortable life, a dental crown may be the perfect solution for you!
One of the hardest and strongest parts of the body is the teeth. Teeth are comprised of minerals that strengthen them and enable them to perform tasks such as chewing tough foods. In addition, teeth enable you to speak clearly and support your facial structure. To keep your teeth in good shape, it is highly recommended that you brush and floss every day. Although strong, teeth are susceptible to injury, decay, and other dental problems. For damaged teeth, there are fortunately many restorative dental treatments available. A dental crown is one therapeutic solution to treat damaged or flawed teeth. It is a customized tooth-shaped cap placed over a tooth to restore its size, strength, or shape.
Onlays and ¾ crowns can also be used to repair tooth damage; however, these are suitable for teeth with minimal damage as they cover only a portion of the tooth. While a full crown can protect and repair the entire surface of the tooth, these smaller versions require a solid tooth structure.
As the premier Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist and dental implant specialist, Dr. Hill offers extensive experience in producing results that are not only functional and durable but also beautiful and natural. Your dental crown procedure is a two-step process, requiring an initial visit to design your permanent crown and a second appointment at which your permanent crown will be applied to your tooth. During the planning phase of your treatment, Dr. Hill will shape your tooth to prepare it for your crown and take an impression that will be sent to the lab to use in fabrication. During this visit, she will provide you with a temporary crown that will stay in place until your permanent crown is ready. Once your permanent crown has been created, she will remove the provisional crown, and your permanent crown will be cemented to your tooth for final placement.
Crowns require little to no recovery. However, you will need to wait about 30-45 minutes after your treatment to eat and drink. You may have some mild swelling or soreness for a few hours, but this should subside quickly. You will also want to avoid chewing on the area of your mouth where your crown is for several days.
Your dental crown results are permanent, with no subsequent treatment needed unless your crown becomes damaged. You can best maintain your results by brushing and flossing regularly and avoiding chewy and sticky foods.
Yes. While you can get crowns applied to all of your teeth, there may be other options that are more practical for your needs, such as dental veneers or implants. During your consultation, Dr. Hill will assess the condition of your teeth to determine the best course of action.
The dental crown process is not painful. Dr. Hill will numb the targeted area of your mouth and administer IV sedation if needed to provide you with the most comfortable experience possible.
