Invisalign Q & A
What are Invisalign liners?
Invisalign liners provide a non-invasive, cutting-edge approach to straighten your teeth. Whether your teeth are crowded or gapped, you have an overbite or an underbite, or you just want to improve the overall spacing and alignment of your teeth, Invisalign can help.
These innovative dental appliances take a different approach to teeth straightening than traditional orthodontics. With Invisalign, you have no restrictions, no pain, and no metal braces. You don’t have to worry about mouth injuries with sports or what you can and can’t eat.
Since they’re clear and removable, your friends don’t even notice them and you can even take them out for special occasions and events.
What happens when you wear Invisalign?
When you see Dr. Hill for Invisalign, she performs a smile assessment to see if these FDA-approved clear aligners can improve how you feel about your teeth. Once she confirms that Invisalign is right for you, Dr. Hill builds your treatment plan.
Using a precise digital scanner, she completes a digital model of your mouth, which allows her to build your treatment plan, addressing each and every tooth that’s out of place. She then sends away for your first aligners.
When they arrives, Dr. Hill ensures they fit your mouth. She gives your next few aligners, along with a copy of your treatment plan, which tells you how long you should wear each one — typically a week or two. The plan also explains that you should:
- Wear the aligners 20-22 hours a day
- Take your aligners out to eat and clean your teeth
- Brush and floss as you normally would
- Schedule appointments every six to eight weeks
How does Invisalign work?
Each time you change your Invisalign clear aligners, the custom molding puts pressure on your teeth, slowly and gently moving them into place. These movements are tiny, but with each aligner change, your teeth shift and move toward their final positioning and the smile you’ve dreamed of.
Only Dr. Hill can tell you how long your Invisalign treatment will be, but many patients get straight teeth in just a year.
